Some genuine services affected by TRAI’s NCCPR

Many people are very happy with the TRAI’s implementation of NCCPR but they forget that TRAI’s shortsighted policy has immensely hit many companies and their ability to communicate with their employees, customers and other vendors.

1. Passwords and confirmation SMS sent by websites

These days almost every website send SMS confirmation on their user’s mobile number to verify the details.

Websites are allowed to send SMS if consumer is opted for Category 6.

2. Confirmation sent by Radio Taxis

Meeru Cabs, Hertz and many other Radio taxis which send SMS to their customers for booking confirmation now can not send SMS unless user is registered under category 7.

Not all cab companies are registered with airlines and railways so their messages can’t be termed as transactional as per TRAI.

3. Alerts generated in factories (via automated system)

Many of our customers rely on our SMS services to send critical machine failure alerts or goods dispatch, units manufactured etc now can not send SMS between 9:00 PM to 9:00 AM. To name a few like Hyundai Motors, RIL etc.

4. Many CRM & Billing system uses SMS for letting the customer know about their due date etc.

Companies send SMS to their employees not for commercial gains but for informations purpose like a manager sending an SMS to all his 50 subordinates informing evening meeting time now can’t be sent as if the receiver is listed in DND he will not receive the SMS.

Companies sending information to their clients about payment due date, order dispatch details etc are now not possible.

5. Two-way communications in an automated way, like querying a Inventory system via SMS.

We have over 300 customers who are using our two-way messaging system through missed calls, where once a caller give a missed call on a pre-defined number he gets the details on his mobile via SMS e.g.

1. A sales employee gives a missed call on our number and he gets the inventory position of the company via SMS so that he can offer a definite date to the customer.
2. A consumer gives a missed call on a number to get his electricity bill via SMS.

(Sorry, can’t disclose the name of companies)

6. SMS sent by technical analysts or professional service providers

There are so many small vendors who charges their customers to send some professional times on a daily basis like share market, gold exchange rates, local news alerts etc which now can’t be sent.

Kindly note the services mentioned above are logically and technically send only transactional messages but as per TRAI they won’t and can only send SMS under promotional category.

Don’t you think a major revamp is required from TRAI on this policy? Do let us know what do you think about it…
